5 Scents to Boost your Mood

So have you ever had one of those days where you wake up and just feel like, blah? lol. You're struggling to get motivated, can't get it together, and wish you could hit the snooze button. Or, days where Monday just feels like the most mondayest Monday LOL. Even more seriously, there's times when life can just be tough and we're looking for ways to feel encouraged and conquer the day.

Well I'm sure you know that there are tons of things that can affect our mood such as diet, life lol, lifestyle and so much more! But, did you know that there are scents and fragrances that can impact and effect our mood? It's true! Having a background as a clinical therapist, I'm always looking for simple everyday things that can help brighten our day or cope when things get tough. There are scents that positively effect how you're feeling, and below I wanted to share with you scents that are known for bringing joy and lifting our mood:

Lavender

Lavender

Lavender is often known for its ability to help us feel calmer. What's pretty cool about lavender though is that it has both stimulating and calming effects. Lavender can positively lift our mood (and is even know for reducing depression) while soothing and calming our minds. If you need a pick me up in the middle or end of the day, lavender would be a great option!

Lemon/Citrus

Lemon

The scent of lemon is one of my personal favorites. Lemon along with many other citrus scents (grapefruit, orange, etc.) can certainly lift your spirits on a tough day. Lemon is known for fighting fatigue, reducing depression, and is  a great bacteria fighting anti-inflammatory scent. This would be a great scent to use to start your day on the right foot!

Pine

Pine

Pine is one of those amazing scents that just reminds you of nature and the outdoors. It's definitely a hit or miss for some people, but if it's been a miss for you it may be time to reconsider! Not only does pine have the ability to boost your mood but its also great for clarity of mind. Have a project you need to work on or just need to focus? This may be your go to!

Jasmine

Jasmine

"I can show you the world", nope not that Jasmine lol. But this floral scent can show your brain a whole new world. lol. Jasmine is known for its abilities to communicate to the limbic system of the brain which is responsible for controlling our emotions. It has been known for reducing stress, coping with depression and reducing anxiety.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is another one that has more than one benefit. While cinnamon is warming, it also has the ability to stimulate neurons (thus) stimulating our mood! Like many of other scents it has anti-inflammatory properties as well. If you have a busy day ahead cinnamon would be the perfect choice as its great for focus, attention, and memory.
